Vietnam Memorial Wall - sponsored by Landers
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be on display in DeSoto County June 11-16.
This inspiring monument is a stunning three-fifths scale, v-shaped replica wall, 6-feet tall at the center and almost 300-feet long. It lists more than 58,000 Americans who fell in the Vietnam conflict from 1959 to 1975 and stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. The purpose of the replica wall is to help heal and rekindle friendships and allow people the opportunity to visit loved ones in their home town who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington D.C.
Numerous groups will be escorting and assisting with the Wall. The escort will be arriving June 10 from Forrest City, Arkansas and should arrive at approximately 2:00pm at Landers Center, located at 4560 Venture Drive, Southaven.
The Wall will be available for viewing on June 11th beginning at 2:00pm and will remain open 24 hours a day with lighting and full security until June 16th at 9:00am. The Opening ceremony will be June 11 at 7:00pm, in front of the wall on the south end of the property. Closing ceremony will take place Monday, June 16 at 9:00am. Parking is free and is in the Southeast parking lot, the corner of Pepper Chase and Turman.
There are numerous opportunities to volunteer for the event. There will be a meeting April 28 at 8:00pm, for those interested in volunteering at the American Legion Post, 2520 Goodman Road, Horn Lake. If unable to attend the meeting, please use the contact information below.
